Dr. Future News - Changes at KSCO, Scribd for unlimited reading, 3D Printer in Space, Dogs and Robots, Hawking and Brain Uploads, DIY Brainscanning, Water on Mars!

Listen Now Dr. Future News 10.01.13

Despite the government shutdown, there is a lot of interesting news this week for us to peruse.  We had a rather spirited conversation this week on cosomologist Steven Hawkings musings loading one’s brain into a computer, a worthy candidate for such a procedure if there ever was one!

And then there is Mars, which apparently once had a lot of water (as in this pic), and now has been shown to have  2% water in it’s rocks, an abundance of the liquid, enough to not just create drink for biological life forms, but enough to create fuel for rockets, turbines, and other essential technologies for colonization.

Geologist Richard Ely also suggested that there was enough water to create a carbon dioxide atmosphere for the planet, which could warm the place a bit, making it more palatable for ours and other mammalian species.  Sure, you can’t breathe CO2, but its good for plants and other life forms…

Fukushima Update with Richard A. Wullaert, Ph.D.

Listen Now to Fukushima update with Dr. Wullaert

The Fukushima nuclear disaster is over two years old now, and we keep hearing more and more horror stories.  We’ve heard that massive numbers of fish contaminated, radioactive clouds heading our way, Tsunami debris hitting our shores is hot, etc., etc..  So, we thought it was a good time for a reality check on this issue, see what the situation is and what the health risks are currently.

Dr. Wullaert has over 40 years experience in the nuclear energy world, including being principal investigator and project manager for large programs concerned with the mechanical properties/fracture toughness of reactor materials and the structural integrity of reactor components. He spent a lot of his time thinking about and evaluation the work being done at Fukushima to contain the radiation.

In our interview he shares with us what he knows about the repairs on the reactor and the potential health risks of the disaster.

Dr. Future News - Competition in Space, 23 Significant Twitter moments, GM takes on Tesla, Rendering a Skyscraper Invisible, 800 foot ocean waves, The Acoustic Levitation Waltz, No Fooling, Taking on Mr. Fingerprint from Cupertino. Estrogen, Estrogen, I smell Estrogen.

Listen Now to Dr. Future News 9.17.13

A fun news week, hence our expanded edition coverage of what’s new, exciting, and adds to a brighter future!

A couple of notes on this show…with the launch of the Cygnus supply ship to the International Space Station this week, we see the beginning of private enterprise competition in space, as the second private company. Orbital Sciences Corporation, enters the foray with SpaceX. This will be fun to watch, as more and more players play in space!

And speaking of competition in new spaces, we discuss GM’s latest  foray into electric vehicles, with plans for a car that challenges Tesla in terms of range (200 miles per charge), for half the cost. We do point out that Tesla is not standing still, with evidence showing that they will be adding autonomous driving to their vehicles in the near future!  But come on, you gotta try to keep up, GM!

And in the computer world, we discuss Apple’s new fingerprint sensor, and potential ways to fool it, like lobbing off someone’s finger to access their data, as we’ve seen in so many shows and movies. Apple has thought about this, and have a solution…

As Twitter prepares to enter the investment world with it’s upcoming IPO, we thought it to be a good time to look at some of the significant moments that Twitter has brought us since it’s inception.  If nothing else, it has proven to be a great breaking news and group organization tool, especially useful in this day and age.  Have you discovered the power of your Tweets yet?

And what’s this about Estrogen?  Turns out male aging processes, like belly fat and libido drop, can be directly attributed to this typically perceived female hormone.  Considered by many as a major scientific advance, we now realize that Estrogen is not just for the feminine anymore.  We now know that we need both the big E & T (testosterone) to feel whole..go figure..

Dreaming Heaven - Interview with Lee McCormack

Listen Now to Lee McCormack on Dreaming Heaven

Are we smart enough monkeys to dream heaven onto earth?  Can we make our problems just go away and not bother us anymore?  Is reality a holodeck?  Well, skip that last question for a moment and let’s go back to the first, Dreaming of Heaven on Earth.  Now let’s substitute “Creating” for “Dreaming.” Creating Heaven on Earth..That is the real goal here, in Dr. Future’s estimation.

Enter Lee McCormack, son of a hard working Wyoming cattle rancher and wealthy Southern Belle.  A man of considerable drive and passion, he lived and loved his priviledged life with little thought to consequence, until one day he woke up to realize he was seriously hooked on cocaine, and needed to do something.  Soon he was enrolled in rehab programs, including the well known 12-step approaches.  But after years of treatment he felt something was still missing for him to feel truly whole.

Realizing that classsic rehab thinking wasn’t quite enough, he struck out on his own to find something more resonant with his own beliefs. Books like The Four Agreements and the Carlos Castenadas tomes made more sense to him and and he soon found himself hanging with Native American and Mesoamerican shamans and healers who opened him up to a universal view of life and a new paradigm of thinking, leading to new appoaches for addiction treatment, and beyond…

Want to know more?  Then check out his collaborative new book/DVD, “Dreaming Heaven,  the journey of a lifetime.” and listen to our interview!

Enjoy..
